The goal of this project is to build transparent, accountable, and responsive local government in the Menofia Governorate, that works with citizens to find solutions for local community issues.
This project engages nine local councils representing three districts in the Menofia governorate, along with media representatives and local community. Participants will engage in a series of training & technical assistance activities to build capacity and increase transparency and accessibility.
Project activities include:
(1) providing community leaders, media, and local councils with tailored training programs and technical assistance on participatory planning, public reporting, community needs assessment/prioritization, monitoring, and budgeting.
(2) creating open channels for average citizens and community groups to understand the public decision-making and be involved
(3) raising citizens' awareness regarding their rights in quality public services through monitoring public projects and public budgeting
(4) networking between and among community groups, elected members of local councils, and media. The project is in its 2nd phase, currently supported by USAID and previously supported by MEPI. The project is crucial now in Egypt’s democratic transition, as it aids the local districts in the decentralization process.
