  The role of civil society in promoting the rule of law

The project "Strengthening the rule of law in Egypt during democratization" held two discussion groups titled the role of civil society in promoting the rule of law, where they introduced the concept of civil society, trade unions and federations, lobbyists, interest groups, associations and civil institutions as being civil society organizations that have an active role in promoting the rule of law. They also explained the role of civil society institutions in activating the rule of law, whether through monitoring the public authorities to see the extent of their commitment to the law and sovereignty, or through individuals who are aware of their rights, or through drawing the attention of public opinion to the state’s behavior. Dr. Ayman Ashmawy (Professor of Law) introduced the discussion axes during the groups that were held on the 2nd and 6th of December 2012 at Al-Tahrir Lounge / Nile Delta, with more than 65 lawyer from Menoufia and Tanta in each group
