  Micro-financed Kiosks for female-headed households

Direct project beneficiaries were located in the Monufia Governorate. A total of 60 small business kiosks (as well as stock and appropriate business training) were delivered through the program. The project was funded by three grants from the Embassy of the United States in Cairo, The Irish Embassy in Cairo, and the Sawiris foundation. The duration of the kiosks for female-headed households’ project ran over a period of three years. The kiosks greatly improved the lives of the female participants and their families. The participants themselves were empowered with the skills to run their own business, in addition the program saw school dropout rates amongst participants’ children decrease.
Success Story: Soha Ibrahim – Tala district
Soha’s life was normal and stable. Her family income met the basic needs of living and her children’s education. Following many visits to the doctors her husband was unfortunately diagnosed with throat cancer. The family’s life started to deteriorate due to expensive costs of her husband’s treatment and his inability to work. Soha was advised by many people to submit request to El Sadat Association and after field research made by El Sadat Association staff she was awarded funding for a kiosk. Following this the Soha has been able to provide for her family, and meet the medical costs for her husband’s illness
